Kyle Walker Announces Retirement
“I am sad to be making this decision, but I’m also very proud of what I’ve achieved with England,” stated Kyle Walker as he confirmed his retirement from international football.
Walker, who earned a remarkable 96 caps for the England national team, has been a key figure in the squad since making his senior debut against Spain in November 2011. His career with the national team spanned over a decade, during which he participated in five major tournaments, including the FIFA World Cup and UEFA EURO competitions.
His last appearance for England came in a friendly match against Senegal in June 2025, marking the end of a significant chapter in his football journey. Walker reflected on his time with the national team, saying, “To represent your country once, let alone 96 times, I’m extremely proud of that.”
Throughout his career, Walker played for several clubs, including Sheffield United, Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester City, and Burnley. He was also vice-captain of the England team during the UEFA EURO 2024, showcasing his leadership on and off the pitch.
Walker participated in notable tournaments such as the FIFA World Cup in 2018 and 2022, as well as the UEFA EURO in 2016, 2020, and 2024. He was part of the England squad that reached the finals of the UEFA EURO in both 2021 and 2024.
In a moment of reflection, Walker described his international career as a “whirlwind of a journey,” expressing gratitude to various managers, including Fabio Capello, Roy Hodgson, Gareth Southgate, and Thomas Tuchel, who played a role in his development as a player.
Walker scored his only international goal against Ukraine in September 2023, a highlight in a career filled with memorable moments. He was also named player of the match in his first start against Sweden in 2011, a sign of his immediate impact on the team.
As Walker steps away from international duty, Thomas Tuchel, his former manager, acknowledged his contributions, stating, “I know all England fans will join me in congratulating Kyle on an incredible international career.”
Details remain unconfirmed regarding any potential future roles for Walker within football, but his legacy with the England team is firmly established.
