The Future Engineers Academy, a collaboration between Star Academies and the Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Team, has successfully engaged over 1,300 pupils in Birmingham, UK, providing them with hands-on experiences in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). This initiative aims to inspire the next generation of engineers and motorsport enthusiasts through creative and technical challenges.

Launched recently, the program focuses on Year 6 pupils, offering them opportunities to design liveries and race suits for a concept car. Additionally, it includes after-school coding clubs that enhance digital skills, crucial for the future workforce. Jed Cinnamon, a representative from Star Academies, emphasized the importance of exposing young people to various career paths, stating, “It is critical that young people see and experience a wide range of career paths from an early age – and we are delighted that our primary pupils have this unique opportunity through our collaboration with Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Team.”

Isla Mackenzie, a Dyno Systems Engineer at Mercedes-AMG, expressed her excitement about the program’s potential impact, saying, “I can’t wait to see how the programme ignites a passion for STEM and F1 in primary school classrooms and what it leads to next!” This sentiment reflects the broader goal of the Future Engineers Academy to broaden access to engineering and motorsport for underrepresented communities, a mission that was first introduced last year.

In addition to the educational initiatives, Mercedes-AMG is also making headlines with its latest performance model, the E53, which features a 3.0-litre petrol engine combined with an electric motor, producing 577bhp. This model may represent a significant shift for the brand, as it could be the last performance vehicle to feature a petrol engine, marking a transition towards more sustainable automotive technologies.

The E53, which has a starting price of just over £100,000, is equipped with 20-inch alloy wheels and can travel up to 57 miles on battery power alone. It also includes a 14.4-inch infotainment screen and a 12.3-inch screen for the passenger, showcasing the blend of luxury and technology that Mercedes-AMG is known for.
