Charlotte Riley Joins Hollyoaks Amid Personal Milestones
What does Charlotte Riley’s recent casting in Hollyoaks signify for her career and personal life? The answer is multifaceted, as she not only steps into the role of Leah Barnes but also celebrates 12 years of marriage to actor Tom Hardy.
Riley, who met Hardy on the set of the 2009 TV adaptation of Wuthering Heights, has two children with him: a son aged 10 and a daughter aged 7. Hardy also has a 17-year-old son, Louis, from a previous relationship.
In her new role on Hollyoaks, Riley takes over from Elá-May Demircan, who portrayed Leah Barnes for 14 years, with her last appearance in 2024. Leah is the daughter of Ste Hay, played by Kieron Richardson, and will be featured alongside Imran Maalik, who is returning to the show as her boyfriend.
Riley expressed her excitement about joining the cast, stating, “It feels like a dream to be joining Hollyoaks. I’m looking forward to viewers seeing a new side to Leah Barnes.” Her previous television credits include a role on Coronation Street, where she played the younger version of Lou Michaelis.
The chemistry between Riley and Hardy was evident during their time filming Wuthering Heights, with director Coky Giedroyc noting, “The chemistry was amazing. It got very steamy, to the extent that I had to keep yelling, ‘Cut!'”
As Riley embarks on this new chapter, she also has a new BBC drama titled ‘Babies’ set to air from March 30, further expanding her portfolio.
Details remain unconfirmed regarding any future projects or personal developments for the couple, but their long-standing partnership continues to capture public interest.
