Vine’s journey with hair loss has been challenging, particularly after the birth of her son William, when her condition worsened. For 15 years, she concealed her hair loss before deciding to reveal it publicly. Her treatment involved a two to three-year regimen of drugs and painful injections aimed at promoting hair growth.

She reflects on her past perceptions of wigs, stating, “I thought wigs were embarrassing and very possibly unhygienic,” but has since embraced them as a means to enhance her self-image.

Vine aims to destigmatize hair loss, asserting, “I want to de-stigmatise this condition and if talking about it helps, great.” She has learned that the key to a successful wig experience lies in clever styling, allowing her to feel more confident in her appearance.

As she notes, “Now, when I catch sight of myself in a shop window, I don’t see a frumpy, middle-aged, well-past-her-sell-by-date old bag; I see a rather sassy brunette with a cheeky bob.” This transformation highlights the importance of addressing hair loss not just as a cosmetic issue, but as a significant aspect of personal identity and self-esteem.
