Previously, themes at the Met Gala often included subtitles that provided further context. However, this year marks a decisive shift as it will be the first time Andrew Bolton presents a theme without a subtitle.

This change reflects a growing recognition of fashion’s role in artistic expression. The exhibition will feature nearly 12,000 square feet of the Condé M. Nast Galleries and will display paintings, sculptures, and garments spanning 5,000 years of art.

The dress code for attendees is ‘Fashion Is Art,’ which invites guests to explore their interpretations of this concept on the red carpet. The hand-painted carpet design aims to resemble a stone garden pathway, featuring a tan color with patches of moss green.

Furthermore, the carpet is framed by wisteria lining the tent’s ceiling and walls—adding an elegant touch to the event’s atmosphere.

Andrew Bolton stated, “What connects every curatorial department and what connects every single gallery in the museum is fashion, or the dressed body.” This perspective reinforces how integral fashion is to understanding art.
