Bridger Brewing, established in 2013 near Montana State University, has made a name for itself in the craft beer industry. The brewery, which produces around 1 million cans of beer annually, recently celebrated a remarkable achievement at the 2026 Montana Beer Awards, where it won 10 medals, including five gold medals. Jason Brenden, the owner, expressed his pride, stating, “We’ve been cranking away, and to get that just makes it feel like all your hard work is paying off.”

In a different arena, Montana election officials are reminding voters about the implications of House Bill 719, which was passed during the 2025 Legislature and took effect in October 2025. This new law mandates that voters include their birth year and signature on mail ballot envelopes. Angie Paulsen, a representative from the election office, emphasized the importance of this requirement, saying, “These laws impact every voter using mail ballots, and we want to ensure that people are aware of this requirement before they send in their ballots to help set our voters up for success.”

The implementation of this law has had a noticeable impact on ballot rejection rates. Initially, the rejection rate for ballots in Yellowstone County was nearly 4.5%, but after outreach efforts, it has dropped to 2.03%. This is a significant improvement compared to the previous municipal election rejection rate of 0.78% in 2023.

In addition to these developments, the Department of Defense has selected military installations in Aurora, Colorado, and Cascade County, Montana, for its microreactor program. Nancy Balkus, a spokesperson for the DOD, remarked, “This initiative represents a critical step in ensuring the department remains the world’s premier air force and space force.”

Details remain unconfirmed regarding the broader implications of these changes on local communities and the brewing industry. However, both Bridger Brewing’s accolades and the new voting regulations are set to shape the landscape in Montana significantly in the coming months.
