Hugh Bonneville has ruled out a return to the Paddington Cinematic Universe as Mr. Brown, a decision that comes as the franchise gears up for the release of Paddington in Peru on April 1, 2026.

The upcoming film follows Paddington as he returns to Peru to visit his Aunt Lucy, only to discover that she has gone missing. Paddington teams up with the Brown family to search for her, continuing the beloved bear’s adventures.

Bonneville, who has been part of the Paddington franchise since the first film in 2014, expressed his sentiments about stepping away from the role, stating, “I don’t think so. I really don’t. I’ve loved it, but I’m getting on a bit.” He further commented, “It’s a younger man’s job, but you can get other actors in and it will work just as well, because it’s all about the bear.”

The film is directed by Dougal Wilson and is set to premiere on Sky Cinema and NOW. Bonneville appeared in the first Paddington movie in 2014 and its sequels in 2017 and 2024.

In addition to Paddington in Peru, a fourth Paddington film has been confirmed, as announced by Studiocanal CEO Anna Marsh. She stated, “There will be a fourth film. We’re thinking about the next movies and we’re working on a new TV series as well as the stage show musical with Sonia Friedman and Eliza Lumley.”

As the Paddington franchise continues to expand, Bonneville’s absence marks a significant change for the series. His portrayal of Mr. Brown has been a cornerstone of the films, contributing to their charm and appeal.

While fans may be disappointed by Bonneville’s decision, the franchise’s future appears bright with new projects in the pipeline. Details remain unconfirmed regarding the specific roles other actors will take in the upcoming films.

What does the launch of HBO Max in the UK mean for streaming services? It signifies a significant shift in the competitive landscape, as HBO Max officially launched on Sky and NOW on March 26, 2026.

HBO Max Basic with Ads is now included in the Sky TV subscription for eligible customers, while existing NOW Entertainment members can access it at no extra cost. This integration allows Sky customers to enjoy HBO Max alongside other popular services like Disney+, Netflix, and Hayu.

Subscription plans for HBO Max start at £4.99 per month for the Basic with Ads tier, while ad-free plans begin at £9.99. For those looking for a more comprehensive experience, the Premium plan is available for £15 per month, allowing streaming on up to four devices and offering 30 downloads.

Ernest Doku noted, “Its broadband and Ultimate TV package now includes ad-supported versions of HBO Max, Netflix, Disney+, Discovery+, and Hayu.” He referred to the launch as a “major shake-up” for TV fans, emphasizing the value of Sky’s bundle compared to individual subscriptions.

If subscribers were to pay for those five services individually, it would cost £28 a month, whereas Sky’s bundle offers all of them for just £39. This pricing strategy is expected to attract a significant number of new subscribers.

HBO Max boasts a rich library, including acclaimed series like Succession, The Wire, and Game of Thrones, along with blockbuster films such as Dune and The Batman. The integration of TNT Sports into the HBO Max app for Sky customers further enhances its appeal.

Sky customers can also add TNT Sports as a separate Sky TV pack, broadening their viewing options. The HBO Max service is seamlessly integrated into the NOW app for existing NOW Entertainment customers, ensuring a smooth transition for users.

As HBO Max expands its services to the UK and Ireland, it marks a critical step in its European expansion strategy. However, details remain unconfirmed regarding the platform’s future content offerings and additional features.

With the launch of HBO Max, viewers in the UK now have more choices than ever in the streaming market, prompting a reevaluation of their subscription services.
