In her reflections, Toffolo expressed her deep affection for Scotland, stating, “I don’t think I’ve ever properly explained why I love Scotland so much… The air feels fresher, the mornings are slower… My nervous system resets when I am here.” Her sentiments highlight a stark contrast to the turmoil surrounding BrewDog.

Following the company’s administration, BrewDog’s new owner, Tilray Brands, has criticized James Watt’s legacy, labeling it a “stigma” for the brand. Tilray acquired BrewDog’s brewery and 11 bars for £33 million, but the company owed creditors a staggering £553.8 million at the point of sale.

The fallout from BrewDog’s financial issues has been significant, with 38 BrewDog bars closing and 484 staff losing their jobs. However, 733 employees were retained in the sale, primarily operational staff and those at the 11 franchised pubs.

Observers note that shareholders are not anticipated to receive any return in the administrations, further complicating the situation for those invested in the company. Irwin Simon, a representative from Tilray, made it clear regarding James Watt’s involvement, stating, “We don’t need James Watt, because if James Watt were ever to come back here – and I’m being very clear, he’s not – what happens is this becomes about James Watt’s second and third act.”

As BrewDog navigates this challenging period, the future remains uncertain. The company’s reputation and operational strategies will be under scrutiny as it attempts to recover from its debts and restore its brand image.
