Actor Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) has made a stunning debut in Tamil Nadu’s Assembly elections held on May 4, 2026, leading in 110 of the 234 constituencies. This performance challenges the dominance of traditional parties like the DMK and AIADMK.

Key statistics:

• TVK was leading in 110 seats, while the AIADMK-led alliance was ahead in 62 seats.
• The ruling DMK alliance was leading in 61 constituencies.
• Vijay contested from two constituencies—Perambur and Tiruchirappalli East—and led in both.
• TVK secured a vote share of 34.72 percent, translating to approximately 1.18 crore votes.
• The DMK garnered around 24 percent with about 84 lakh votes.
• The AIADMK achieved a vote share of 21 percent or about 73.93 lakh votes.

Vijay’s party promised a monthly assistance of Rs.2,500 for women under 60 years of age—a move that resonated with many voters. The voter turnout reached an impressive 85.1 percent, marking the highest in Tamil Nadu’s history. This indicates a strong engagement from the electorate.

Actor Sivakarthikeyan expressed his excitement: “Congratulations to Vijay sir for achieving such a big victory and impact in his first election.” Meanwhile, K Annamalai noted that voters have rejected dynastic politics and called for a generational shift in politics.

TVK’s success is notable as it cuts across both urban centers and rural areas, even within traditional DMK strongholds. This shift signifies a potential change in Tamil Nadu’s political landscape, which has been dominated by Dravidian parties for decades.

As the counting progresses, Vijay maintains a lead in Tiruchirappalli East by a margin of 6,499 votes at the end of the first round. TVK has already won 31 constituencies, while DMK secured only 21 seats and AIADMK managed to win just 10.
