Trainspotting: The Musical Set to Premiere in July 2026

Trainspotting: The Musical is set to make its world premiere on July 15, 2026, at the Theatre Royal Haymarket in London, marking 30 years since the release of the original film.

The musical, based on the 1996 film of the same name, features Robbie Scott in his West End debut as Renton. It is written by Irvine Welsh, who also authored the original novel, and directed by Caroline Jay Ranger.

Performances will run Monday to Saturday at 7:30 PM, with matinees on Thursdays and Saturdays at 2:30 PM. The show will have a total running time of two hours, including a 20-minute interval.

Tickets for the highly anticipated musical will go on sale on March 24, 2026. The production promises to include iconic tracks from the film alongside original music and lyrics by Stephen McGuinness and Irvine Welsh.

Characters from the film, including Sick Boy, Begbie, Spud, Tommy, and Kelly, will also be featured in the musical. Welsh has emphasized that this adaptation has a “bigger, loudly beating human heart” than either the book or the film.

Welsh remarked, “People need to think about the world we’re living in, and we offer that inspection, but they also really need to sing their hearts out and laugh their heads off – it’s what being human is all about – and they’ll be well served with this too.”

With the musical set to explore themes relevant to contemporary society, observers are eager to see how it resonates with audiences. Details remain unconfirmed regarding additional casting and production elements as the premiere date approaches.
