FC Barcelona open talks for Harry Kane transfer amid Bayern contract discussions
FC Barcelona has reportedly initiated discussions with the representatives of Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane regarding a potential transfer. This development comes as Kane is currently focused on England’s progress in the 2026 World Cup knockout rounds.
According to reports, the Catalan club is exploring the possibility of bringing the 32-year-old forward to the Spotify Camp Nou. Kane’s current contract with Bayern is set to expire in 2027, meaning he will enter the final 12 months of his deal this week.
Kane’s Club Situation and World Cup Focus
Harry Kane has been a key player for England in the 2026 World Cup, scoring three goals in the group stage. He netted a brace in England’s 4-2 victory over Croatia and scored again against Panama. England’s next challenge is against DR Congo in the last 32, with potential future matches against the winner of Ecuador and Mexico, and possible quarter-final and semi-final encounters with Brazil and Argentina, respectively.
Kane’s immediate focus remains on the tournament, as he aims to overcome previous disappointments in the Euro finals of 2021 and 2024. His club situation is expected to be addressed once England’s campaign concludes.
While FC Barcelona has reportedly contacted Kane’s camp, sources indicate that no firm offer has been made to either the player’s representatives or Bayern Munich. Previous inquiries suggested Kane was content in Bavaria and not looking to move, despite his contract situation.
Bayern’s Stance and Barcelona’s Strategy
Bayern Munich remains optimistic about securing Harry Kane’s long-term stay at the club. His representatives are reportedly open to discussing a new deal, with formal talks anticipated after the 2026 World Cup. Bayern is said to prefer a two-year extension, while Kane is reportedly seeking to extend his contract until 2030.
FC Barcelona could potentially capitalise on this contract disagreement. If Bayern and Kane cannot agree on an extension, Barcelona might aim to acquire him for a reduced fee rather than risk Bayern losing him as a free agent in 2027.
The potential move for Kane draws comparisons to Barcelona’s previous acquisition of Robert Lewandowski from Bayern in 2022. Lewandowski, who was nearing his 34th birthday at the time, was signed for $57 million (€50 million). He went on to become a club legend, lifting three La Liga titles and scoring 120 goals in 193 appearances before his departure as a free agent on June 30.

Meanwhile, another potential target, Julian Alvarez, has reportedly agreed to a five-year deal with FC Barcelona, but his reported price tag of around $175 million, influenced by a Real Madrid bid, is a significant obstacle.
Bayern Munich also has other players whose futures are being discussed. Leon Goretzka is expected to leave this summer, with AC Milan and Chicago Fire showing interest. Additionally, goalkeeper Alexander Nübel has expressed a desire to join Beşiktaş, and talks between the clubs are underway.
