West Ham reach agreement with Al Hilal for Crysencio Summerville transfer
West Ham have reached an agreement with Al Hilal for the transfer of Netherlands international Crysencio Summerville. The deal for the winger is understood to be worth a total package of £60m, comprising £55m guaranteed and an additional £5m in potential bonuses.
This agreement follows a rejected proposal from Roma for Summerville, which was reportedly around £39m (€46m). The Serie A club had been attempting to secure a deal with West Ham for the player. News of Al Hilal’s offer was first reported on Tuesday afternoon, with the Saudi club’s bid, nearly double Roma’s initial proposal, quickly accepted by West Ham.
Roma is not expected to increase their bid to match Al Hilal’s offer. The Italian club is reportedly exploring alternative targets, with Antonio Nusa and Andreas Schjelderup, both Norway World Cup stars, among their options.
Summerville’s Impact and Previous Interest
Should the transfer be finalised, Summerville’s sale would represent the third-highest in West Ham’s history. Only the transfers of Declan Rice and Mateus Fernandes have generated higher fees for the club. West Ham, who were relegated to the Championship, are set to have raised over £150m from the sales of Summerville and Fernandes this summer once this transaction is completed.
Summerville played 34 times for West Ham during the 2025/26 season, scoring seven goals and providing five assists. He then participated in all four of the Netherlands’ matches at the 2026 World Cup, where he scored two goals and contributed two assists.
Prior to the agreement with Al Hilal, several Premier League clubs had shown interest in Summerville, including Manchester United. However, discussions with Manchester United did not progress beyond initial, exploratory talks. Any potential move for the winger to Manchester United was contingent on the sale of Marcus Rashford during the summer transfer window.
West Ham’s Summer Transfer Activity
West Ham has been active in the transfer market this summer. In terms of incoming players, Keiber Lamadrid joined from Deportivo La Guaira for an undisclosed fee. On the outgoing side, Krisztian Hegyi moved to Sparta Prague for an undisclosed fee, and Mateus Fernandes was transferred to Tottenham for £85m. Callum Wilson also departed, joining Brentford on a free transfer.
Manchester United had considered Summerville as a potential replacement should Marcus Rashford leave. The West Ham winger’s potential fee was estimated to be around £30m in that scenario. Summerville, who was part of the Netherlands’ World Cup campaign, has three years remaining on his contract. West Ham had indicated an openness to selling the 24-year-old Dutchman following their relegation to the Championship, provided they received a suitable offer.
Rashford’s future at Manchester United has been uncertain due to a reported breakdown in his relationship with the club. This situation led to the England player joining Aston Villa on loan for six months starting in January 2025, and subsequently moving to Barcelona for the entirety of the last season. Despite an uneasy truce between Rashford and Manchester United, he is expected to begin the season at Old Trafford. Rashford still has two years remaining on his £17.5m-a-year contract, and Manchester United’s preference remains to offload the 28-year-old forward through either a sale or a loan, though finding a club with the financial capacity to afford him has been a challenge.
Manchester United has also been pursuing midfield reinforcements. After signing Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans for a combined initial fee of £82m this week, the club remains interested in adding a third midfielder. Michael Carrick is reportedly an admirer of Roma’s Manu Koné, Bournemouth’s Alex Scott, and Real Madrid’s Eduardo Camavinga. However, the asking price for each of these players, ranging from £60m to £80m, suggests that a move for any of them is unlikely.
